About Radially Oriented Ring Magnet

Many magnet users are having a tendency to confuse radially magnetization with diametrically magnetization. As the name implies, the magnetization direction of radially magnetized ring magnet is along its radial vector. For sintered Neodymium magnet, radially magnetization is basing on radially orientation. Radially oriented ring magnet is serving more as the basis to obtain multipole ring magnet.

Manufacturing Process of Radially Oriented Ring Magnet

Multipole ring magnet is infinitely a preferred path for rotating machinery and magnetic coupling device in comparison with traditional splicing several arc magnets. Radially oriented ring magnet is the most common and mature solution to produce multipole ring magnet. Radial ring magnet can be manufactured by either powder metallurgy process or hot deformation process.

Powder Metallurgy Process

For sintered Neodymium magnet, manufacturers must apply the external magnetic field to order the easy magnetization direction of powder during the molding process and thus make powder consistent with the final magnetization direction. The mainstream generation mode or radially orientation magnetic field includes repulsive orientation technology and Chinese unique rotating orientation technology.

Hot Deformation Process

Hot pressed magnet made by hot deformation process is another path to produce radial ring magnet. Nd2Fe14B main phase has tetragonal structure and elastic modulus of the easy magnetization axis is relatively low. For isotropic nanocrystalline Neodymium magnet, its easy magnetization direction will form the preferred orientation along pressure direction during hot deformation process. The most noteworthy feature of hot deformation process is that it does not need the magnetic field to orient powder.

Advantages of Radially Oriented Ring Magnet

  • Easier for assembly process compared with gluing several segments magnets and thus reduce assembly cost.
  • Improve utilization rate of raw material.
  • Excellent dimensional accuracy which will substantially enhance dynamic balance of the motor.
  • Highly flexible magnetization patterns, controllable waveform and magnetic field strength which will reduce cogging torque and motor noise.
  • Available for N35-N50, N35M-N50M, N35H-N48H, N35SH-N45SH, N35UH-N40UH, N28EH-N33EH.

  2. Est-il possible de magnétiser des segments d’arc de dimensions :
    – D-d =12mm,épaisseur 60mm, ouverture angulaire 30°, magnétisation perpendiculaire à une face 12x60mm. Les segments d’arc ainsi magnétisés s’attireraient entre eux et leur assemblage pourrait donner
    une couronne sans champ magnétique ni en son centre ni à l’extérieur .
    – pouvez vous me conseiller un livre qui expliquerait la technique de la magnétisation des segment d’arc en NdFeB

  6. Thank you for the interesting introduction on your products. I am designing a device which could use a radially oriented magnetization. It would be very helpful for me to see how others are using them. I have looked your examples but I could not understand how to use radially oriented magnetization in a Linear Actuator Motor or a compressor motor. Could you help me so that I can incorporate your radially oriented magnets in my designs.
