Magnetic assemblies are intended to prevent brittle permanent magnet to crack during repeating impact and significantly improve magnetic strength simultaneously. Pot magnet is the outstanding representative which embodies these two merits. The basic structure of the conventional pot magnet consists of the permanent magnet, steel shell, and spacer. Sintered Neodymium magnet, sintered Samarium Cobalt magnet, sintered ferrite magnet, and cast AlNiCo magnet is all can be utilized by the pot magnet.
Working Principle of Pot Magnet
Magnetic flux lines of pure magnet distribute freely in the air. For pot magnets, permeability of the steel shell and ferromagnetic load are significantly higher than air’s. Therefore, magnetic flux lines certainly flow along a more direct path and converging on a circuit after mounting magnet stuck to ferromagnetic load. The strong vertical pull force generated by completely closed magnetic field is several times higher in comparison with pure magnet.
Machining Technology of Steel Shell
Steel shell of pot magnets can be machined by turning and stamping process. Stamping steel shell is mainstream product in pure quantity terms and thus form price advantages compared to turning steel shell. Unlike stamping steel shell, turning steel shell is not necessary for molding cost and has more abundant products series, especially large fishing magnet. It should be noted that pull force of turning design is generally higher than stamping design’s in same dimension due to better machining accuracy.
In addition to grade and structure parameters, pull force of pot magnets is also directly affected by the material, composition, and size of attracted objects. It pull force declined with increasing air gap, and even small air gap will generate dramatic effect on the pull force value in practical application. Contact way between pot magnets and attracted objects may cause neglected air gap at the same time.
