Magnetic door catch, also referenced as magnetic door latch, magnetic cabinet catch, or door magnet, is a conventional and effective option of keeping doors held in normal position once it closed. Magnetic door latch is well adapting for almost any applications where need a lightweight door to stay closed and a mechanical latch is not required. Magnetic door catch is generally composed of magnetic catch body and a ferrous striker plate. Magnetic catch body should be fitted on the front of the top or bottom plates of the cabinet, and the striker plate is fitted on the door side.
Most of magnetic door catch utilizes ferrite magnet which means there are no corrodible components in the entire product, thereby, it can last a long time even under the harshest conditions. Besides smart structure, magnetic door catch also possesses creditable magnetic circuit design. It is essentially a sandwich magnetic assembly. Finite element analysis (FEA) results indicate that pull force of sandwich structure will be significantly higher than the frequently-used pot magnet structure under the relatively small distance. In addition to making full use of magnet’s performance, pull force-distance relationship of the sandwich structure is more in line with the application requirement of magnetic door catch. Sintered Neodymium magnet applies also in magnetic door catch with ultra-thin design.
Specifications of Magnetic Door Catch
Magnetic door catches are available in various styles and configurations which typically classified into plastic type and steel type according to the housing material. Magnetic door catches with different color fit perfectly into the specific interior of the kitchen cabinet, bookshelf, or any other cabinets need to keep closing. Pull force is range from 1kg to 45kg.

Installation Instructions of Magnetic Door Catch
- Place the magnetic catch body on the cabinet shelf. Align the front of the catch body with the front edge of the shelf and make pencil marks in the mounting holes of the catch body.
- Drill pilot holes at the pencil mark and screw the magnetic catch body to the shelf.
- Please the striker plate against the inside of the cabinet door, and position it so it is directly across from the magnet when the door is closed. Drill pilot holes and screw the striker plate to the door.
- Closing the door and check whether the magnet holds the door closed or not. If the force needed to open the door seems weak, loosen the screws on the catch body and slide it forward, then retighten the screws.
Custom Magnetic Door Catch
Besides standard specifications, SDM is also capable of helping custom to produce custom magnetic door catch. SDM know full well that the magnetic door catch has extremely high requirement for cost and capacity as a civilian product. SDM is weak in terms of mechanical structure design, but is able to assist customers via magnet design and quick prototyping.
