Ι What Is Halbach Array?
A Halbach array, an innovative configuration of permanent magnets, enhances the magnetic field on one side while greatly reducing stray fields on the opposite side. This Halbach array achieves such efficiency by arranging magnets in a precise pattern, with each adjacent pair’s magnetization direction offset by a specific angle, creating a unique flux distribution. First identified by John C. Mallinson in 1973 as a “one-sided flux” phenomenon, the concept intrigued researchers as a novel curiosity. In the 1980s, Klaus Halbach at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory independently developed a Halbach array, applying it to lasers, traveling wave tubes, and particle accelerators. Renowned for its magnetic field intensification and intricate assembly process, a Halbach array is a leading example of magnetic assemblies, now utilized in advanced technologies like magnetic levitation, electric motors, and medical imaging systems, offering exceptional field control and efficiency.
