SmCo Countersunk Magnet

SmCo magnet, generally referred as Samarium Cobalt magnet, is a kind of rare earth permanent magnet. SmCo countersunk magnets are a function form of SmCo ring magnets with one end surface has a standard straight hole, but the other end surface has an angled countersunk hole. SmCo countersunk magnet is typically measured by the outer diameter, straight hole diameter, major diameter, depth, and angle. The angle conventional being 90 degrees. The countersunk hole serves a convenient method to fix the SmCo magnets onto either magnetic or non-magnetic surface securely using the matching standard countersunk screws. In reality, countersunk hole is also common in SmCo block magnet and SmCo arc magnet.

Machining of SmCo Countersunk Magnet

As a type of sintered magnet, Samarium Cobalt magnet is also hard to achieve the required shape and dimension directly except large-sized products with uniform shape. Due to technical restrictions during the molding process, post machining process is always inevitable to the Samarium Cobalt magnets, especially for SmCo countersunk magnets. Machinability of Samarium Cobalt magnet is even worse than sintered Neodymium magnet, therefore, there are only cutting, grinding, and drilling available for its machining among traditional machining technology. Hole machining process of SmCo countersunk magnet includes straight hole and the countersunk hole. Countersunk hole should be finished based on straight hole. Workpieces are necessary to fixed accurately during the machining process of the countersunk hole to ensure concentricity between two types of holes.
