About Ion Vapor Deposition (IVD) Aluminum Coating Magnet

Aluminum coating is an ideal surface treatment method for the sintered Neodymium magnet from the perspective of corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The potential difference between Alumium coating and sintered Neodymium magnet base is quite low which will prevent electrochemical corrosion. Alumium coating will further form a homogenous, dense, and corrosion resistant layer under the atmospheric conditions. The corrosion products of Aluminum coating are also belongs to non-toxic substance. In addition, corrosion resistance, color, and abrasion of Aluminum coating can be further enhanced via the subsequently anodizing or electrolytic coloring. Aluminum plating process of sintered Neodymium magnet is utilizing ion vapor deposition (IVD) technology which developed by McDonnell Douglas Corporation for the United States Air Force. The original intention of Aluminum coating is to replace historically Cadmium coating. Aluminum coating magnet is commonly used for specific high-end applications.

Manufacturing Process of Ion Vapor Deposition (IVD) Aluminum Coated Magnet

The aluminum wire is fed into the resistively heated source and vaporized with the help of high strength direct current. Hot aluminum vapors condense to form an aluminum coating on the surface of sintered Neodymium magnet and thus reach the prescribed thickness gradually.
