SmCo Ring Magnet

Samarium Cobalt magnets, like Neodymium magnets, encounter challenges in achieving precise shapes and dimensions during the pressing process under an external magnetic field. This constraint complicates direct production of SmCo ring magnets to meet application needs, requiring additional machining of sintered blanks to ensure the final product aligns with desired specifications for practical use.

The machining of SmCo ring magnets also starts with cylindrical blanks. Being hard and brittle, SmCo magnets are susceptible to cracking and chipping during machining. To reduce defects, hole processing for SmCo ring magnets typically employs trepanning and wire-cutting methods instead of drilling, ensuring higher yield and quality in production.

SmCo ring magnets are typically magnetized axially or diametrically, much like Neodymium ring magnets. However, unlike Neodymium, an SmCo ring magnet rarely features diametrically multipole or radially magnetized patterns, as radial magnetization is mainly used in high-end applications like aerospace gyroscopes, requiring advanced configurations.

When applications demand diametrically multipole or radially magnetized magnets, an Samarium Cobalt ring magnet is often substituted by assembling multiple SmCo arc magnets into circular setups. Additionally, axially multipole magnetization is uncommon for SmCo magnets due to the larger capacity needed for saturation and limitations posed by standard magnetizing fixtures.
