Type 1: Pot magnet

Pot magnet is a kind of simple magnet assembly, and widely used in various industries. The pot magnet can be given extremely strong pull force due to special magnetic circuit designing. Some people think one of poles is shielded by the steel cap.

If you have Polarity Pen or Tesla Meter, you can find the polarity on steel cap is contrary to the polarity of magnet’s working surface. The pot magnet can’t be called monopole magnet.

Type 2: Radially oriented ring magnet

The radially oriented ring magnet is difficult to manufacture, and its price also very expensive. We have already analyzed the radially oriented ring in our previous Techtalk.

For radially oriented ring magnet, the polarity of the whole outer diameter surface is same, while contrary to the whole inner diameter surface. The radially oriented ring magnet also cannot be called monopole magnet.

Type 3: Monopole magnet-like assembly

This kind of magnet assembly is the most close to monopole magnet, and you can find the polarity on the two end surfaces of the magnet is the same. Some researchers even apply these monopole magnet-like assemblies into their perpetual motion machine models.

We can make a simplified model by axial-magnetized magnet and steel plate. Actually, you can find the polarity of the steel plate is contrary to the end surfaces. Like previous two types, this assembly cannot be called monopole magnet too.
