Selective Point of Magnetic Sensor

Each type of magnetic sensor has respective advantages and disadvantages, and users will flexibly choose the suitable one during practical applications. Even detection sensitivity is regarded as the most important parameter, and following factors also should be taken into consideration.

Working Temperature

The ambient temperature of SQUID should be lower than 77K which need refrigeration system and thermal isolation devices. In fact, other sensors are all operating at room temperature.

Integration

The cost price can be lowered if a sensor unit integrates with semiconductor technology. Meanwhile, application range of the sensor will also expand.

Magnetic Field Type

Which type of magnetic field you need to detect? Vector magnetic field or scalar magnetic field? Magnetic field or magnetic flux? Actually, most of magnetic sensors can only detect the magnetic field in the specific direction. Detector coil, flux gate and SQUID are belonging to flux sensitive sensor which applied for large system, and field sensitive sensor is much more suitable for the small system.

Working Frequency Range

The working frequency range of magnetic sensor might range from 0.1Hz and 10GHz. For example, magnetocardiogram need low-frequency magnetic sensor, and frequency of high speed circuit sensor can reach GHz.

Size of Magnetic Sensor

Different application requires different sized sensor. The sensor size for data storage and integrated circuit should be less than 1μm, and size for magnetocardiogram and battle environment relatively loose which between 1μm and 1mm.
